Everyone has something that they are afraid of. Some people have a fear of the black void of the dark. Many have a panicky fear of flying. The second most popular fear, on most polls, is the fear of public speaking. It can send someone into a shaky mess. For me it's spiders. I've single handedly beaten snakes to death, watched surgeries in the OR and been a first responder to a man run over on Silas Creek Parkway. Very little upsets me but even the tiniest spider can cause me to wet my britches. (not kidding) In looking at lists of fears I saw one that shocked me. It's called Zeusophobia. It is the fear of God. It's not the healthy respectful fear of God but a terrifying fear of Him. Doesn't that just break your heart? Wouldn't you love to have even a few minutes to talk with someone suffering from such a fear and bring the truth of a loving God that doesn't want to zap them with a lightening bolt and destroy them? I would love to be able to tell them that Jesus has called us His friend. Yes, God is to be respected and feared for His power and glory but He is our comforter and gentle Father that cradles us in the palm of His hand.
For I the Lord your God hold your right hand; I am the Lord, Who says to you, Fear not; I will help you! Isaiah 41: 13
